Several years ago  after completing treatment for breast cancer I decide to return to college.  UAB has some of the best art professors in the country.  So as a middle aged woman just out of chemo,  I painted with all of the twenty something college students four hours a day and often into the evenings.  My favorite story is about the day I pulled out my walkman which was an "ancient" tape player. The young man whose easel was next to mine gave me an unfathomable look.  I said,  "I'm 49 years old."  Later that week I bought my first portable CD player.  All of this is just to say that by going back to school I was asked to create a cover for Dr. Tennant McWilliams' new book about the beginnings and growth of UAB aptly titled, "New Lights in the Valley, the Emergence of UAB."  What good luck.
